Koala in Wild at Noosa - 11/8/11
Many Australians have never seen a koala in the wild. Once I learned which type of eucalyptus tree they like best, I started really looking up whenever I saw that type of tree. On a hike in the Noosa National Park, I saw a cluster of these trees and was determined to spot a koala. To my own amazement, here he was! When you see how well camouflaged they are, it is a wonder that anyone ever spots them in trees in the wild. It was interesting to watch him for a while to see how koalas move around and how they find a fork in trees to nestle into and cling to with their very powerful claws. Our voices obviously disturbed him and finally he looked right down at me, which I interpreted as him asking me to be quiet or leave!
